For many years, I lived under the influence of a belief that limited my potential. I believed my body was destined to be a certain way due to my genetics. It made me think that a lean, fit body was unattainable without extreme food restrictions, damaging my physical potential and self-worth. Overcoming these beliefs was challenging but a necessary step in my transformative journey. 

Self-love, Acceptance, and Compassion

The foundation for creating new beliefs begins with self-love, acceptance, and compassion. This meant treating myself with kindness even when I stumbled, viewing those moments not as failures but as opportunities for learning and growth. Your self-worth and self-love are needed to defend yourself against self-criticism, judgment, and ridicule. When these voices surface, hear them out but then reject them. Consider yourself the protector of your mental landscape, guarding against the invasion of negative thoughts.

Committing to your journey means showing up, even when you don't like it. Consistency is what builds strength, both mental and physical. And if you stumble or have moments of indulgence, remember to pick yourself back up and continue on your path. Your commitment to your journey is what builds strength, both mental and physical.

Identity: Seeing Yourself in a New Light

As you cultivate healthier beliefs and consistently act on them, they'll shape your identity. Just as fit people see themselves as fit and make choices consistent with that identity, your commitment to health and well-being will alter how you perceive yourself. And the more you act in line with this new identity, the more it will solidify in your mind. 

The Power of Positive Beliefs

Our beliefs are not just mere thoughts. They have the power to shape our actions and our world. The more you nurture positive beliefs, the more you'll find yourself making decisions that align with them. Give yourself positive affirmations, like, "I can figure this out. I always do. I'm going to like my decision, no matter what happens. I can always change direction if I need to. I'm always in control!". When negative thoughts or old beliefs resurface, acknowledge them, then gently steer your mind back to your new beliefs. Over time, you'll find that your old beliefs lose their power over you. 

Strengthening New Beliefs

Like a muscle, your new beliefs must be exercised to become strong. Gather evidence supporting these beliefs - each moment of progress, no matter how small, validates your potential for change. This positive reinforcement will help you build conviction in your new beliefs.

The Paradox

Beliefs can be double-edged swords - either holding you back or propelling you forward. We've all heard the saying, "If you think you can, you can. If you think you can't, you're right." Our beliefs, whether positive or negative, have the power to shape our reality. The choice is yours: Will you let old, limiting beliefs hold you back or cultivate empowering new beliefs that propel you forward?
